Andrew Symonds' desperate attempt to save his dog was unsuccessful after a tragic car accident.

ANDREW SIMMONS' dog, , refused to leave their side while a couple tried desperately to save him.

After a tragic car accident, the 46-year-old Australian cricket legend died. His wife Laura and their two children, Billy and Chloe, survived him.

Queensland Police said that the accident was a one-car collision at 11pm on Saturday night. His vehicle had left the road and rolled.

It was his only companion, but his beloved blue heelers, who were also with him, survived.

Waylon Townson and Babetha Neliman, his girlfriend, were quick on the scene after the crash. However, the former all-rounder was still breathing.

Babetha described the scene to the Courier Mail, and said that she immediately noticed the two dogs.

He was partially hanging from the motor while the country music that he was still listening to was playing.

She revealed that one of his dogs wouldn't leave him. "One of them was extremely sensitive and didn’t want to leave him."

"It would growl at us every time we tried moving him or getting near him."

Symonds, eight years ago, posted an Instagram photo calling his blue heeler puppy his "new best friend".

Waylon tried to lift Symonds from the car and put him on his back. However, he was "unconscious", not responsive, and didn't have a pulse".

Inspector Gavin Oates stated to the Courier Mail that alcohol is not suspected and that nearby residents were present at the scene.

He stated that he believed they gave the best assistance at the time, and called 000 and the emergency services.

The fan favorite was not saved by the paramedics on the scene and he later died from his injuries.

Many tributes were sent to the cricket, with Mark Taylor, former Australia captain, stating that it was "another tragic day in cricket".

Piers Morgan tweeted: "Devastating News to Wake Up To... Another Australian Cricket Legend Taken From Us Way Too Soon.

"Andrew Symonds (46), was killed in a car accident two months after Shane Warne's death. Magnificent all-rounder, wonderful character, Aussie sporting icon. RIP Roy.

Adam Gilchrist, a Wicketkeeping legend, wrote this on social media:
