Devon Malcolm, an ex-Test hero, is being investigated for comments.

The Azeem Rafiq racism scandal in English cricket has already rocked English cricket. In June, the ECB brought charges against Yorkshire and seven others for bringing disrepute to the game.

According to the latest allegations, the unnamed official was said to have been employed by the English Cricket Board for many years.

Malcolm, who immigrated from Jamaica to Sheffield in 1978, became a well-known figure in the sport.

He took 128 wickets in 40 tests, and was well-known for his 9-57 against South Africa at The Oval 1994. He also starred for Derbyshire, Northamptonshire, and Leicestershire.

He joined Dean Headley (an ex-England quickie) as one of five newcomers to the ECB's match referees panels in an effort to increase diversity.

He was rejected twice in his previous attempt to be a first-class umpire. However, others were more readily accepted.

Two years ago, John Holder and Ismail Dawood were former umpires who claimed that there was discrimination within the ECB's appointment system.

They also noted that since 1992, no non-white official has been on the first-class roster.

Holder, an ex-Hampshire cricketer, was removed from officiating Test matches in 1991.

This was shortly after he had reported on alleged ball manipulation by an England player.

Yorkshireman Dawood was a player for Northamptonshire and Worcestershire as well as Glamorgan and Yorkshire. He was never promoted to the reserve list.

Shortly after Malcolm joined the new supplementary panel of match referees, Holder and Dawood dropped any claim they had against the ECB.
