PAKISTAN have named their disgraced former captain  Salman Butt as a new selector.

It is Butt’s first job in international cricket since he was jailed in 2011.

That followed a conspiracy to deliberately bowl no-balls in the 2010 Lord’s Test against England.

The spot-fixing involved deliberately bowling no-balls at certain moments in the game.

He jailed for 30 months and banned from playing for ten years for his part in a conspiracy.

Fast bowlers Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir – both 18 at the time – were also banned for being involved.

Amir did play for Pakistan again in 2016 but neither Butt or Asif represented their country again, returning to domestic cricket instead.

Butt, 39, has recently been working as a TV pundit in Pakistan.

He will be joined on the panel by new chief selector Wahab Riaz plus panel members  Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar.

A Pakistan Cricket Board spokesperson said: “Their first assignment includes the five-match T20 series against New Zealand in January.

“When not engaged in selection duties, the consultant members may be assigned additional tasks such as conducting skills camps.”

Butt starts his role with immediate effect ahead of Pakistan’s series against New Zealand in January.
