England loses 2-1 ODI series to India, as Rishabh Pan scores a sensational century in Old Trafford demolition

JOS BUTTLER acknowledged that he still has much to learn after England's defeat by India.

Rishabh Pan, Indian cricketer, completed the task with six fours in seven ball to send England to their second consecutive home series loss of 50 overs since 2015.

Joss Buttler said he needed time to adjust to his new captain role

India won the series with Rishabh Pant scoring 125 runs

This means That Buttler started by losing Twenty20 and the one-day international series, after taking over from Eoin Morison.

He stated that he was learning a lot about his job. Although the first week of captaincy was busy, I feel more at ease now.

"There are many games to play in a very short time span, which can be a challenge. I would have preferred a few days to think.

"I feel like an experienced cricketer, but a young captain with the opportunity to learn. It will take time. I cannot run before I can walk.

"I need to learn to trust the men around me, and my style must improve over time. Matthew Mott is our new coach. Although we are trying to get that bed in as soon as possible, it may take some time."

India's historic win at Old Trafford was completed by Pant's devastating attack.

His innings ended with five fours, a single from David Willey and another boundary from Joe Root's first ball. Pant seemed to be able to hit the ball anywhere he wanted.

It could have been different if Buttler had stumped Pant off Moeen Ali after he scored 18, but the ball was too big for him and he was left stranded.

Reece Topley, who posted record England one-day figures at Lord's on Thursday, 6-24, took India's first three wickets, as they chase England's modest 259 allout.

The result was never in doubt once Hardik Pandya joined Pant in a fifth-wicket standing of 133.

Pant's last 59 runs were made from only 28 deliveries.

Let's face it, England has performed poorly in white-ball matches against India. Their bowling has been poor and their batting lacks smart decision-making.

Buttler and Mott need to improve in six matches against South Africa. The matches begin with a 50-over match in Durham on Tuesday.

Buttler said, "We haven't performed our best in these matches by any stretch of the imagination." As a team, we need to return to what we are good at.

"Pant is an excellent player, and if you give his second chance, he will usually hurt you."

England's woes began in the second over, when Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow were both out for ducks. They lost 25 balls, even though they had 50 runs to bat.

Buttler's 60-run innings was their only half century in the three-match series. This is a clear indication of their current woes with the willow.

After being twice bumped on his head by Mohammed Siraj, Buttler used three helmets in his innings. After being bumped on the head by Mohammed Siraj twice, Buttler was able to pass the concussion protocol but needed a replacement lid every time.

England attempted to be aggressive, but was negligent in execution. Seven batsmen scored 18 or more runs, but Buttler managed to reach fifty.

Craig Overton, Liam Livingstone and David Willey were all caught at the boundary, while Jason Roy launched a steepling skiing skier high into the air, and then down into Pant's gloves.
