Ben Stokes was more than able to support Jonny Bairstow, who scored a 50 on his own

Ben Stokes, despite suffering from a knee injury, made a quick half-century in support of Bairstow as the hosts chased down a crazy 299 at Trent Bridge.

England leads the three-match series, 2-0. One match remains after Nasser Hussain's "best-ever Test win".

Bairstow marmalized the tourists' attack – missing Kyle Jamieson due to injury - with 14 fours, SEVENsixes and a sensational display.

England was in trouble before Zak Crawley lost for a four ball duck.

Alex Lees burst out of the blocks but couldn't keep his eyes open as Ollie Pope (18), and Joe Root (33) fell in rapid succession.

He was later outnumbered by 44 runs in England's 93-4 win. England still needs over 200 runs to win at an average of 4.5 runs per over.

However, Bairstow & Stokes teamed up for a ridiculous partnership of 179. The tea break assault was utterly stupendous.

Every ball was cheered by a packed Trent Bridge, with the majority of the spectators catching the bats of Bairstow.

The No5 was not able to beat the record for fastest century by an England batsman with a single ball.

Gilbert Jessop holds the record for the fastest 76-ball on in 1902, with Brendon McCullum as the world record holder after smashing the 54-ball ton in the last Test.

After being caught behind 27 runs short of victory, Bairstow fell.

The crowd at Trent Bridge gave him a standing ovation.

England was understandably slow to react after Bairstow was dismissed but eventually cruised past 299 with plenty of time remaining for only five wickets loss with Stokes and Ben Foakes at the crease.

The captain was 75 not out of 70 balls when the latter clinched a six and two for fours.
