Root was asked to resign as skipper after the humiliating series loss to West Indies
Root, however, reiterated his desire for the captain's chair.
He stated, "I've made it very clear that I am passionate about this job.
"I feel like there's support in the dressing room behind my and I'm desperate for them to smile and celebrate because we don’t feel that far away."
England has lost just one of 17 red-ball matches in their last 17 games, leaving them at the bottom of the World Test Championship.

Root has been urged to resign by former captains Michael Vaughan and Michael Atherton, as well as Sir Geoffrey Boycott.
Kevin Pietersen scored 23 centuries for England in the 104 Tests. He tweeted: "Poor Joe Root suffering at hands of a so terrible system!"
"There is no one who can coach or lead that team better than me."
"ZERO batting technique!" ZERO! "I feel sorry for the players!"
Paul Collingwood, interim coach, also supported the skipper.
Colly said that he still wants to be considered on a permanent basis for the position.
"If I didn’t think that, there would have been a problem."
Root acknowledged that he was hurt by England's two batting falls -- the first being 120 runs in Grenada.
He said, "Saturday really let me down. This is quite a punch, considering that we have played such good cricket for most of the series.
"Some poor decisions and sometimes a lack skill probably let us down when really we needed to stand up."
