MOEEN ALI is contemplating ending his Test retirement. He says he would love to play under Ben Stokes or Brendon McCullum.
The Worcestershire man is a star in short-form versions, including in the Indian Premier League for Chennai Super Kings.
Since September, Ali's England appearances have all been in shorter formats.
In 2014, he was part of the national-team team and travelled to Bangladesh for the Twenty20 World Cup.
Moeen is also a winner of the 2015 Ashes Series, having been on the winning team.
Moeen, an all-rounder, quit Test cricket after 64 caps last September but McCullum admits that he is a persuasive coach.
Moeen, 34 years old, shared his experience with BBC Test Match Special. He said that Brian got the job, and he messaged me the next day during the IPL, asking if I was in.
"We spoke and he wanted to know if I was interested in playing. It's very difficult to say no to someone like him, and it was very frustrating for me. He is very persuasive.
"To be sincere, I would love to play under Stokesy and him. They both have that kind of character. They are very aggressive. They think I would suit their cricket, and I believe they think I would suit them.
"I am a big believer in never saying never. We'll see how it goes. Brendon was adamant that the door can be opened if you need it. So, yeah, I'm keen."
Moeen, who was awarded the OBE in Queen's Birthday Honours last Wednesday, would be a strong contender to be selected for the three-Test trip of Pakistan at the close of the year.

With England still looking for top-class spin bowlers, the strength of spin bowling on the sub-continent could suggest a return.
Moeen's bat strength could make him a key member of the top order. Joe Root and others have failed to prove that they are guaranteed starters.
