Moeen Ali wins England's fastest T20 50, and Bairstow scores 90 in South Africa's thrashing at Bristol

JONNY BAIRSTOW trained for the game by lifting Sam Curran, his teammate - and then he flexed again by lifting huge sixes.

Bairstow crossed the boundary eight times in 90 innings, as England set a new record in their first Twenty20 match against South Africa.

Jonny Bairstow scored another 90 to continue his amazing form

Moeen Ali smuggled the fastest T20 half-century for England

The Yorkshireman with the flame hair was not the only one who ransacked England runs on a pitch that was perfect at a small field. He was also helped by terrible fielding by Proteas.

Moeen Ali smashed England's record for fastest Twenty20 half century using just 16 balls, beating Liam Livingstone's previous record of 17.

The total team of 20 sixes was another record, surpassing the previous 15; and the 33 runs that flowed out of the 17 th over by Andile Phehlukwayo were the most England has ever scored from one over in any format.

If you love to watch the ball fly into the crowd, then this would be a great experience.

England won by 41 runs. Jos Buttler's first series victory since he took over as Eoin Morgan's white-ball captain will be at Cardiff tomorrow or Southampton Sunday.

Bairstow was dropped 4 times, a few of them really dollies, as South Africa's fielding collapsed under the onslaught.

He didn't seem to care and joyfully continued his form that had brought him four hurricane centuries in England’s three most recent Test matches.

Bairstow was photographed in Bristol's gym on Tuesday, posing with Curran draped over his shoulders.

He claimed it was nothing to do the ice pack later placed on his left knee.

Bairstow looked great with a bat in hand and the crowd is loving him. His arrival at the wicket was met with cheers and big hits that were some of the most enthusiastic of the day.

Buttler lost his eighth throw on the trot. South Africa's efforts in the field were immediately revealed when Heinrich Klaasen misfielded, allowing Buttler's first ball to reach the boundary.

Buttler was caught by David Miller at long-off with a stunning, back-pedalling catch. Jason Roy struggled to make it again with only eight of 15 balls.

After Roy was gone, Dawid Malan made 43 deliveries from 23.

Moeen was the one who lifted England's total to the top of the stratosphere.

Six sixes were made by him, but they were all a result of his elegant timing and not brute force. His fourth-wicket stand against Bairstow produced 106 runs in only 5.5 overs.

England's 234-6 total was second in T20s, behind only the 241-3 against New Zealand in Napier 2019, when Malan scored a century.

South Africa was never going to threaten England's huge total, but Reeza Hendricks, the opener, made a quick fifty and Tristan Stubbs, 21, contributed 72 runs in his first T20 international match.

Stubbs scored 20 runs in England's first innings, but he proved that he could be a star in the future.

He smashed EIGHTsixes. One couple were the biggest of the day.

Reece Topley, a left-arm seamer, had another match amid the chaos and came out with 229 of his four overs.

Chris Jordan's three singles in 18 the was also critical.
