South Africa and England resume play in a test match on Saturday to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

The CRICKET Test match between England & South Africa will resume play Saturday. This is to pay tribute Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Friday's cricket fixtures were cancelled in a gesture of respect upon her announcement of her passing at 96.



South Africa's Test match with England will be played on Saturday

After consultation with DCMS, in accordance with Official National Mourning guidance, the decision was made to allow international, domestic and recreational fixtures.

The Test match between England & South Africa will be played at The Oval in London on Saturday. The Women's IT20 match between England & India will also take place at The Riverside in Durham.

Also, it has been confirmed that before every match, a minute of silence will be observed. This will be followed by the national song.

As a gesture of respect, coaches and players will wear black armbands.

"Branded inventory” will be replaced by messaging that pays tribute to The Queen.

England captain Ben Stokes expressed his desire "to play in her memory".

Stokes responded to Darren Huckerby's query about whether sporting events should be allowed to proceed. She tweeted: "She loved sports, [I would] like to play in her honor."

Rugby Union will also continue this weekend.

Officially, the RFU stated that fixtures would continue to be held "to be united with our grief and express our sorrow at her passing".

However, football has decided to postpone fixtures.

Premier League stated that Premier League clubs had paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II at a meeting this morning.

"To honor her extraordinary life, contribution to the nation, as well as out of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round, including Monday night's game, will be delayed."

They said: "Further updates concerning Premier League fixtures during this period of mourning"

Richard Masters, Chief Executive of the Premier League, stated that "We and our clubs would love to pay tribute Her Majesty’s long and unwavering support for our country."

"She was our longest-serving monarch and she left behind an amazing legacy after a lifetime of dedication.

"This is a very sad time not only for the nation, but for all the millions of people who loved her. We join with all those mourning her death."

EFL released the following statement: "Further discussions on Friday morning have determined that all EFL fixtures between 9 and 10 September will be postponed in a sign of respect by National Sport to HRH Queen Elizabeth II's passing.

"This aligns with the approach that Premier League and FA will take with their respective competitions this weekend.

"Further information regarding how football Clubs and their supporters will remember Her Majesty’s reign will be confirmed at a suitable point.

"Details about the rearranged games are being announced in due time."

The FA confirmed that the English football pyramid will be stopped this weekend.

"English football has united to postpone all fixtures between 9 and 11 September as a sign of respect following the passing Her Majesty, the Queen."

"The FA can confirm that all fixtures in the Barclays Women's Super League and Barclays Women's Championship, as well as the Vitality Women's FA Cup and the Isuzu FA trophy, have been postponed.

We can confirm that all fixtures in the National League System [NLS], Steps 1 through 6, including the Vanarama National Leagues and the Women's Football Pyramid (WFP], Tiers 3-7, as well as matches across grassroots football throughout England, will be postponed.

"The Premier League, the EFL and all other parties have confirmed that this weekend's fixtures will be rescheduled at a later date.

"All flags at Wembley Stadium or St. George's Park will fly at half-mast during the weekend."

"Our thoughts are with HRH The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and the entire Royal Family during this difficult time."

The Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League will continue as normal, but English teams would be disqualified from any matches they do not take part in.
