England has more bad news: Mark Wood admitted that his recovery from elbow surgery is slow.

He stated, "I'm grasping at straws for any positives."

After Matt Fisher and Saqib Mahamood, Archer is the third England bowler to suffer from a stress fracture in their backs this week.

England is now facing a serious injury crisis, with Chris Woakes and Sam Curran, Olly stone, Ollie Robinson, and Olly Stone all unfit for international action.

Matthew Potts, Durham's cricketer, will make his debut at Lord's against New Zealand on June 2, while veteran players James Anderson and Stuart Broad are back.

Archer, who is 27 and has not represented England since March 2021's Twenty20 match, will now be targeting the T20 World Cup in Australia, October and November.

Because of his elbow problem, he was already ruled out of England's seven Test matches this year. His chances of playing Test cricket again look increasingly dim.

England stated that Jofra Archer's expected return date has not been established. After further expert opinion in the coming days, a management plan will be developed.

He was a member of England's March tour of Barbados and was optimistic about his future.

Archer had hoped to play T20 matches for Sussex in a matter weeks, so this is a serious setback.

Wood, England's most successful cricketer with 17 wickets in Ashes defeat last winter, confirmed his status as the world's fastest bowler.

He was unable to finish the first Test in the Windies, and is now slowly recovering from the elbow surgery he had in March.

Wood said, "It's slow progression at the moment. I have only done half of a run-up. I hope to be able to complete my run in the next few weeks, and then I can play for Durham.

"But I have trouble getting over the half-run-up tempo, because every time that I bowl there is still swelling. Although they assured me it was normal, it is still quite raw.

"I was fortunate to be able to play for a few years without any injuries, so it is disappointing to miss that long. I was bowling fast and taking wickets.

"I am clutching at straws, looking for positives. This injury has really disappointed me."
