After humiliation in Ashes and only ONE win in the last 14 Tests, Chris Silverwood was fired as England coach

CHRIS SILVERWOOD was sacked after England's Ashes humiliation.

After the loss of 4-0 to Australia, Ashley Giles, managing director, fired Silverwood as head coach.

Andrew Strauss will temporarily replace Giles. An interim coach will also be named for West Indies tour, March.

After a report on the Australian tour that was submitted to England and Cricket Board last Wednesday, the management clean-out began.

Tom Harrison, chief executive officer of the ECB, stated that Chris did everything possible to make it a success during his time in the position.

"Under Chris' leadership, England's white-ball team has been ranked first in the world and second worldwide.

"He led the Test team in a number series wins, including in South Africa as well as Sri Lanka.

"He led England with great resilience during a difficult period, and he deserves all of our sincere gratitude and appreciation."

England has won only ONE in their 14 previous Tests. Graham Thorpe, batting coach, could be the next to go.

Silverwood was also responsible for a chaos off the field, amid claims of a drinking culture and fitness doubts about a number players down under.

He paid tribute to Joe Root, Test captain, and Eoin Morgan, white-ball skipper.

Silverwood, 46 years old, was appointed in 2019.

"I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and dedication and I wish them all all the best.

"The past two years were extremely demanding, but I enjoyed my time with Rooty and Morgs.

"I look forward to spending quality family time."
