Ashes hero Stuart Broad talks to Strictly Come Dancing bosses about a big money deal following his retirement from cricket

ASHES legend Stuart Broad is in talks to become a last-minute signing for Strictly.

The bandana-clad hero, 37, was contacted by producers after he bowled England to victory over the Aussies this week.

A TV insider said: ‘Stuart is very much the hero of the hour and a perfect choice to fill the coveted ‘sport star’ slot’

Broad, now retired from cricket, may follow fiancée Mollie King, 36, who starred on the BBC dance show in 2017.

Former cricketers have triumphed on Strictly, and fiancée Mollie reached the semis.

A TV insider said: “Stuart is very much the hero of the hour and a perfect choice to fill the coveted ‘sport star’ slot.

“It is a last-minute approach, but the BBC think he’s worth trying to get on board because he would be hugely popular with viewers.

“They’d be guaranteed to feature quite a few cricket-themed dances, and would almost certainly incorporate his famous bandana somehow too.

“And having Mollie supporting him in the audience week after week would be a huge bonus.”

Strictly bosses are about to start confirming the celebrities signed up for the 21st series, which kicks off on the BBC next month.

But some slots are still available, and there has been no sign of a sports star being linked yet.

Broad, who made his international debut in 2006, enjoyed a fairytale retirement at The Oval on Monday, taking the last two Aussie wickets to draw the series.

If he signs up for the Strictly ballroom, the 6ft 6in star would need a tall dance partner, but will not be short of advice.

Ex-Saturdays star Mollie, mother to Broad’s eight-month-old daughter Annabella, got within touching distance of the final in 2017.

Former England bowler Darren Gough won it in 2005, a feat repeated a year later by batsman Mark Ramprakash.

Broad’s ex-teammates Michael Vaughan and Graeme Swann have also featured on the show, as has former spinner Phil Tufnell.

Corrie star Ellie Leach, TV host Angela Rippon and EastEnders actor Bobby Brazier are among the celebs linked this year.

A Strictly spokeswoman said: “We do not comment on speculation.” A spokesman for Broad declined to comment.
