AUSTRALIA'S women’s cricket team were criticized for their decision to field a Covid infected player during their Commonwealth Games win.
India was defeated by Meg Lanning's team in the T20 final at Edgbaston, on Sunday.
Tahlia McGrath played in the Commonwealth Games victory over India, despite being positive for Covid
McGrath donned a mask to receive her gold medal at Edgbaston's podium on Sunday
They are the first winners of the Commonwealth, and they are also the current champions in T20 and ODI World Cup.
Before their gold medal clash against India Tahlia McGrath returned a positive test. However, she was cleared by the International Cricket Council (ICC) and the Commonwealth Games Foundation.
The match would have been in her home country and she wouldn't be able to participate. However, England has more relaxed laws.
Strange scenes revealed that McGrath didn't line up with her team-mates during Australia's national song, and she was forced to stand in the stands while wearing a mask during their cricket.
She batted at No4 with no mask and scored two runs from four balls. Before bowling two overs, she took a catch in her fourth over.
She was warned by her teammates not to celebrate after she took the wicket. However, she did join in the celebrations after Australia were named Commonwealth champions.
Megan Schutt, a bowler, said after the win: "It's so strange. We didn't want any trouble.
"We felt sorry for Tahlia at that point. Screw it. We get Covid.
McGrath then wore a mask again while standing on the podium for her medal.
Despite not breaking any rules, Australia was criticized on social media for allowing McGrath to play.
Naveen Sharma, a sports reporter, tweeted: "Australians always preach right or wrong, but they forget all when it comes to themselves."
This fan wrote: "This is odd. You are out of contention if you pass the positive test. What happens if India refuses to participate on health grounds?
The supporter for the Aussie team said that it was highly dangerous to play against other people's health and should be reported to the health organization.
"Australia would be up all kinds if it were the other way around, especially if we lost."
Another added: "So Australia cannot deny Novak Djokovic playing in the Australian Open because she is not vaccinated, but will allow a Covid+ve [sic] person play a cricket match?"
The other commented, "Absolute rubbish!" She shouldn't be near anyone if she has it, and India should not play as a positive puts them out for everyone else. "Why is this suddenly okay?"
