Cricket legend Ben Stokes, 35, joins Somerset village club after he handed England captain his most infamous loss

CARLOS BRATHWAITE has linked up with village cricket team Bridgwater CC.

The cricket icon is best remembered for helping the West Indies to World Cup glory in 2016.

Brathwaite, 35, hit four consecutive sixes in the final over against England to help his side to the T20 title.

The star was up against Ben Stokes in the over but won the battle to break English hearts.

While Stokes is now the England Test captain, Brathwaite is now playing for the Somerset club.

He signed a deal to play with the club and has already impressed.

He hit six sixes as he smashed 48 runs during the club’s 142-run win over Midsomer Norton in the National Club Championship on Sunday.

He told BBC Radio Somerset: “The good thing is no matter how high you play cricket can bring you back down to earth quickly.

“So I never turn up at a ground thinking I’m better than the players in my team or the opposition.

“It only takes one ball to get you out and smacked around the park so it’s a great leveller.

“It’s about respecting the game, appreciating the privilege you have to reach the heights you reached and then just trying to give back to somebody in the dressing room and around the game.”

It is not the first time Brathwaite has played in England during his career.

He turned out for the Birmingham Bears and Kent in the T20 Blasrt in 2021 and 2018.

He has made 260 T20 appearances during his career and scored almost 2,500 runs.

Brathwaite was convinced to join Bridgwater by his former Birmingham team-mate Jake Lintott.

He revealed: “At that point the calendar was empty and I was like ‘why not?’
