Fans baffled as Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale joins Sky Sports’ commentary team for England’s CRICKET match

AARON RAMSDALE may have lined up a career for when he hags up his gloves.

The Arsenal stopper surprised viewers when he turned up in the commentary box for Sky’s coverage of England’s Test against the West Indies.

Most cricket fans were delighted to see Ramsdale, 26, pop up on coverage,

One posted on X: “Ramsdale is in the commentary box at the Test Match at moment. He’s a cricket buff, who knew.”

Another added: “Ramsdale into cricket, fairs my goat.”

Ramsdale’s stint this afternoon came just four days after England were beaten in the Euro 2024 final by Spain.

On his time in Germany, Ramsdale said: “It was so much fun. We had a great team spirit on and off the pitch.

“It was just unfortunate on that final day that we couldn’t get it working but we loved it.”

The England squad played cricket during their down time and also had a visit from Ben Stokes before the tournament.

On Stokes’ advice, Ramsdale added: “He spoke honestly about his whole career, his whole pathway. It was great to hear his ups and downs of his whole life.

“Most importantly, for cricketers as well as footballers, it’s about that next action.

“You might make a mistake or someone might lose a header on a set-piece but it’s about that next action, next ball.

“If you miss one on the outside edge it’s about resetting and trying to find the middle of the bat and that’s certainly what we tried to do.”

Ramsdale thinks he is a lucky charm for Ollie Pope.

He explained: “It’s the second time I’ve come to watch him.

“He got a double 100 against Ireland and I think a 121 today so I’m going to have to keep coming for Ollie!”

Arsenal fan Pope was in full agreement after helping England finish the first day 416 all out.

He said: “I’m obviously a big Arsenal fan so I go to support him a fair bit.

“He seems to be my lucky charm on the cricket pitch as well.”
