Fans left in search of the nearest Greggs after being shocked by The Oval's outrageous food and beverage prices

THE staggering food and drink prices at The Oval have been revealed as fans were left asking for directions to the nearest Greggs.

Day one of the fifth Ashes Test at the iconic venue is underway in London.

However, cricket fans were left shocked by the prices of the food on offer during lunch.

A menu was shared to Twitter showing prices for a series of seafood rolls.

Spectators can buy a lobster and crayfish roll for £25, a crab roll for £18 or a smoked salmon roll at £15.

Additionally, cans of water cost £2 along with a variety of champagnes prices as high as £210 for 1500ml.

England’s Barmy Army tweeted a snap of the menu during lunch and wrote: “Lunchtime at the Oval and it’s a posh one… What are you having from this?”

One shocked fan replied: “A bank loan to be able to afford it.”

Another commented: “Directions to the nearest Greggs.”

A third also wrote: “A trip to the chicken shop by Oval tube station.”

Meanwhile, one more fan said: “Bringing your own picnic is a must.”

This isn’t the first time punters in London have felt ripped off at sporting events.

Australia have already retained the Ashes and lead the series 2-1 following the rain affected fourth Test.

Limited play was possible on day four at Old Trafford, before the entire fifth day was lost due to the weather, causing the match to be drawn.

England can still salvage a draw in the series, though, with a victory in the final test at The Oval.
