Andrew Strauss, interim cricket director, is the third person to lose their job.

As Strauss looks for a new start, Chris Silverwood, the head coach, and Ashley Giles, the managing director have both left this week.

Thorpe stated: "I have been extremely fortunate to work with so many great players and coaches whom I consider my friends for the rest of my life."

Strauss said: "I would like to thank Graham For his work over many decades on the England coaching staff, and wish him all the best for the future."

Joe Root, the test skipper, has been selected to lead the side on the West Indies tour next month.

After failing to win any of three Ashes series, questions were raised about whether he should be allowed to continue his role as captain.

Strauss gave the batsman his confidence vote and promised to bring in coaches to ease the strain on the struggling talisman.

Strauss stated: "I spoke to Joe and it is clear that he is committed to helping this England team succeed."

"He has incredible energy and motivation to accomplish that. He is very disappointed in what happened in the Ashes.

He has the respect of all the players. They all play for him. I'm happy to support him and ensure he has the right structure to ease the pressure and do his job.
