How does England reach the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup?

ENGLAND can still qualify for the T20 World Cup semi-finals, with their fate in their own hands.

When the Three Lions face Sri Lanka in the final game of Group 1 on Saturday, they will know what they need to do to seal their spot in the next round.

Their hopes of winning the World Cup were kept alive as Jos Buttler put on a show against New Zealand.

Now they know what they must do to progress to the semi-finals.

How can England qualify for T20 World Cup semi-finals?

There are several ways that qualification could come about for England, who currently sit on five points in Group 1.

Firstly, a victory of any kind would be enough if one of, or both of, New Zealand and Australia fall to defeats on Friday.

All three sides are currently level on points after four matches with a win, a loss and a no result.

Despite this, both New Zealand and Australia are favourites against Ireland and Afghanistan.

Therefore, there is a possibility that net run rate will decide who progresses to the semi-finals.

New Zealand hold the advantage in terms of net run rate (+2.233) for now despite England beating then by 20 runs on Tuesday.

England sit on a +0.547 net run rate, holding an advantage over Australia who are on -0.304.

For it to go to net run rate, all three teams at the top of the table must finish level on points ahead of the semi-finals, and this looks like a real possibility.
