BRENDON McCULLUM is expected to be appointed England's new Test coach before the end of this week.
After a round interview conducted by Rob Key, chief of the ECB at the beginning of the week, McCullum was voted the favorite.
Brendon McCullum played a major role for New Zealand during his 14-year international career.
In April, Rob Key was appointed the new managing director for England men's cricket.
Yesterday, moves were made to have Key's preferred nominee ratified and approved by the ECB board. This approval is likely to come quickly.
These details are not finalized, but any work permit arrangements and contractual details will be.
If everything goes according to plan, an announcement could be made today. However, it is possible that more time will be needed to sort out the logistics.
One potential topic of discussion was the 40-year-old's current position as Indian Premier League franchise Kolkata Knight Riders manager.
Key previously stated that there might be some flexibility in IPL employment due to his decision to divide the red- and white-ball positions.
Indian Express reports that McCullum told KKR that he has already informed KKR about his plans to leave the post in order to take up the reins at England.
McCullum has never been a coach of a first-class team, let alone one for a Test country, but he is well-known as a brilliant thinker and inspiring skipper.
During his 14-year international career, he made 101 Test appearances with New Zealand and 331 in limited-overs cricket.

He was also an active participant on the Twenty20 circuit, as recently as 2019.
He is also close to Eoin Morgan, England's white-ball captain -- who selected him to be the master of ceremonies for his wedding.
Both Morgan and Ben Stokes, the newly appointed Test captain, were asked for their views on the candidates. They are both likely to have enthusiastically supported McCullum.
Gary Kirsten, the former frontrunner for Test job, could be a candidate for limited-overs.

Current assistant coach Paul Collingwood would challenge the former South Africa and India chief and Simon Katich, an Australian.
The ECB is likely to delay that decision until next week.
