The catch even had the camera fooled, which followed along the ball’s flight path before realising it hand ended up in the hands of Broad.
On England’s No8, one cricket fan said on Twitter: “On today’s episode of things that shouldn’t be allowed to happen on a cricket field.”
Another said: “Oh my God, bloody brilliant, hope this sets the tone today.”
England went into day three trailing the visitors by 124 runs.
Ahead of the match Broad expressed his confidence that England could claw it back.
And with the catch, he’s certainly leading by example.
He said: “We’ve got a genuine feeling we’re still in this game.
“They were good batting conditions when the ball got softer today, and that’s something we’ll want to take forward.
“We’ve got to make it a first-v-fourth-innings game.
“It’s a relatively dry pitch, and Leachy was quite encouraged by the amount of spin he as getting. I think the game’s set up really nicely.”
