After Andrew Strauss had played in Sydney and Adelaide, Australia in his early career, the pair became acquainted.
They were married in October 2003 and had two children together - Sam (2005), and Luca (2008).

Why was Andrew Strauss wearing red to Lord's?
After Ruth's death, Strauss sought out advice from Glenn McGrath, an ex-Australian cricketer. Strauss established the Ruth Strauss Foundation.
Its mission is to support patients and their families, as well as fund research into rare lung cancers.
McGrath is also widowed after the death of Jane in 2008. He started McGrath Foundation during Jane's treatment.
Both sides had special shirts with red numbers and red caps to support the charity.
The Jane McGrath Day is the name given to the third day at Sydney Cricket Ground's first Test in 2007. Many people dress up in pink.
Andrew Strauss wanted this to be replicated, and the Ruth Strauss Foundation Day was established at Lord's Cricket Ground on the second day. Many wore red to support the charity.
Both teams had players wearing commemorative shirts with the foundation's logo. They also had red caps and numbers. PS382,462 was raised that day.
The players wore red during England's three Test series with West Indies in summer 2020.
This tradition was continued in the England vs. India Test series and England vs. South Africa Test series, 2021 and 2022.
