England needs another miracle batting performance from Zak Crawley to prevent defeat by India in Edgbaston Test

ZAK CRAWLEY'S miserable sequence of low scores continues -- England needs another miracle turnaround to avoid defeat against India.

Opener Crawley was out at nine and reached double figures only three times in his 11 Test innings.

With a technique that is being brutally ignored by some of the best bowlers in the world, the 24-year-old batsman appears unsure.

Ben Stokes' team is in serious trouble with Joe Root, Ollie Pope, and Alex Lees not contributing much. England also endured a terrible first session with the ball, including Stuart Broad conceding an all time Test record of 35 runs in one over.

England was at 84-5 by the end of day two, which was heavily affected by rain, in response to India's 416 all-out.

Even England's new, positive look will have trouble escaping this hole from a probing attack.

Crawley was caught in slips trying an ambitious drive. This dismissal can be copied and pasted almost every time Crawley bats.

Brendon McCullum, captain Stokes, and Brendon Stokes, head coach, said that Crawley would continue to play regardless of how many runs they score.

They believe his approach to attacking the game fits the team's ethos. Additionally, they feel he is a streak batter who can play the occasional innings of brilliance in between defeats.

Crawley is now a little like Hampshire's James Vince who averaged 24.90 across 13 Tests in 2016-2018.

Vince was at least a millionaire before nicking -- Crawley is looking terrible right now before nicking.

Jasprit Bhumrah took the first three England wickets. He not only scored 29 runs from Broad's historic over but also bowled brilliantly.

Lees was outpaced by Pope from the wicket, and Crawley as well as Pope were caught in slips with big drives.

Root was then caught behind to another rain interruption as he tried his best to guide the ball to Jack Leach, nightwatchman Jack Leach, who edged out the brilliant Mohammed Shami.

Ravindra Jadeja achieved a more tranquil but not less important century during the morning session after Rishabh Pan's pyrotechnics. He scored 146 balls from 111 balls.

After being 98-5 when taking guard, his First Test hundred in India enabled his team to reach 416.

The left-hander was composed and careful in his strokeplay. He also waved his bat with his trademark sword celebration upon reaching three figures.

Broad took his 550th wicket in Test cricket when Shami was run to third man, and Jadeja was bowled while trying to catch a ball from Jimmy Anderson.

Broad was then plucked for the remarkable 35 runs in an under.

In Test history, there have been approximately 700,000 overs bowled. This was the most expensive.

The world record for Test overs was 28. This was a huge improvement on the previous record of 25%.

Broad was able to catch Mohammed Siraj at mid-off and gave Anderson his 32nd five-wicket win in Test cricket.

Anderson, 39, was determined and said that he is up against it, but that he had been in the same position before.

"There are many men in the dressing room who are willing to fight.

"We will continue to be positive. Our message is that attacking is the best defense."
